Managing Published Papers

  • Through your secured account you can review, update or remove papers. To do this, log in and go to "My Publications".  From there select the option you want, following the on-screen directions.
  • To submit a paper you will need to fill out a catalog entry for it.  This is based on many of the same fields you see in the holding catalog at your library.  Take the time to think carefully about how you catalog.  These fields, especially the title, description and key words, are important in helping others find your paper and determine if it will be helpful to them.
  • Papers can be submitted in a variety of word-processing formats including MS Word, RTF, PDF, PowerPoint and plain text.   Regardless of the format authors work in, all material in Metavue Citation is made available to subscribers in PDF format. This helps to ensure your work can be read by any subscriber.
  • Papers have a size limit of 1 megabyte (MB).  Papers exceeding this will fail to upload.  If you are having trouble with the size of your paper, consider eliminating any unnecessary images from it, since these can take up a lot of space.

  Guidance on your paper

  • Include an abstract.   An abstract or summary helps give the reader, in a page or even less, an idea if the paper is really what they are looking for.
  • Choose subject and topic keywords carefully.   These are often the most important thing people think about when looking for work related to their research project.  Keywords should be descriptive and to-the-point -- avoid meaningless words.  For example, "clay pottery, archeology, Mayan civilization" would be a better keyword entry then "digging for clay pots in Mayan ruins".
  • Catalog carefully. To submit a paper you will need to fill out a catalog entry for it.  This is based on many of the same fields you see in the holdings catalog at any library.  Take the time to think carefully about how you catalog.  These fields, especially the title, description and key words, are important in helping others find your paper and determine if it will be helpful to them.
  • Include References.  If you are publishing a paper that includes a review of literature, be sure to include a reference section.  Finding quality references to help research an area adds tremendous value to a Citation entry.  For more help on how to properly cite resources in your paper see the MLA (Modern Language Association) Handbook.  Writers in the Social Sciences might also refer to the APA (American Psychological Association) Style Manual.

  Other Important Points

  • As a publisher, you receive a portion of subscription fees every time a subscriber selects your work. The current schedule for compensating authors is $10 for every 100 "views" of material published through the author's account.   You should consider publishing several papers since payments are based on adding the "views" for all papers in the account.  You can track "views" of your published work by Citation subscribers by following the "Publishng" link when you are logged in.
  • Be sure you understand the terms of use related to publishing.  Metavue strictly adheres to its policy regarding copyright infringement, fraud and any activity which negatively impacts the quality or reputation of Metavue Citation. Failing to comply with the Terms of Use can result in immediate suspenson of you account and fortiture of any potential earning.
